Oasis NYC Documentary “Dig Out Your Soul in the Streets”
This past September, Oasis traveled to New York City to shoot an exclusive 18 minute, black and white, documentary about the street musicians. Liam, Andy, and Gem (from Oasis) taught NYC street musicians to play a number of their new songs, from their latest album ‘Dig Out Your Soul’. The selected street musicians came from all different parts of the city, and had diverse ethnic and musical backgrounds. The four Oasis songs that were taught were, “The Turning”, “Bag it Up”, “(Get Off Your) High Horse Lady”, and “The Shock of Lightning”. The street musicians rehearsed and then performed the unreleased songs at locations throughout the city; mainly the underground subway. The Malloys, (who have directed videos for The White Stripes and Jimmy Eat World), followed Oasis and the street musicians through the process, filming the documentary.
It’s interesting to see how these talented street musicians come up with their own creative way to deliver the song. They all have their own version. And isn’t that what music is all about, anyway? Taking a piece of music and turning it into your own interpretation.
